Coaching Session

For my coaching session I went to Northgate Primary School to teach a group of 14 pupils in year 3/4. I arrived at the school for 10:15am, this allowed me plenty of time to get equipment ready for the planned session. Once I had set up up the equipment I waited for the children to come onto the field, I lined all the children 1 by 1 across the field, I introduced myself and told the children my name and what we would be doing for the session today.

We began the session at 10:30am warming up with a game of 'duck, duck Goose!'. After this warm up I went into my session plan, the aim was to help improve the throwing techniques of the kids in a fun, enjoyable atmosphere. To help increase the awareness of the kids and ther attention span on the session I had carried out I split them into two groups when carrying out my session plan I turned it into a competition, so the kids went head to head with each other showing more attention to the session. This seemed to keep them occupied and they where really enjoying the aspect of competing with each other.

Strengths
  • Allowed enough time to prepear the lesson and get equipment put out.
  • Good use of competition, to help maintain kids attention.
  • Well organised.
  • Introduced myself to the kids.
Weaknesses
  • Planning was not used effectively as I went over lesson time.
  • Need to be more loud and speak clear and concise for pupils to hear me.
  • Split the groups into mixtures of pupils ability.
Improvements
If I was to deliver another coaching session I would have more self confidence as this would help me with skills such as introducing myself to the kids and teacher, I wouls also keep a track of time on me prefereabley using a stop watch as well as a whistle to help get the attention of the kids when they where not listenining. I would also ask student to tell me how they thought the session went.
